BALLOT LAWSUIT DISMISSED
A lawsuit that claimed the Detroit Clerk's office was violating the law concerning
absentee ballots has been dismissed by a Wayne County judge. A 24-page opinion
and order from Judge Tim Kenny says those seeking a temporary injunction raised a
"false flag of election law violations and corruption" concerning today's election and his
ruling takes down that flag. The judge said failing to produce any evidence that the
procedures for this election violate state or federal election law demonizes the Detroit
City Clerk, her office staff, and the 12-hundred volunteers working this election.
ELECTION MONITORS
The Justice Department has announced plans to monitor compliance with federal
voting rights laws in 24 states for the general election, including Michigan. The Civil
Rights Division regularly monitors elections to protect the rights of voters and take
complaints over possible infractions. For the general election, the Civil Rights Division
will have monitors stationed in Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Pontiac and Southfield.
Monitors will include personnel from the Civil Rights Division and from U.S. Attorneys
Offices. On Election Day, Civil Rights Division personnel will be available all day to
receive complaints from the public regarding violations of federal voting rights laws.

EMMY AWARD
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan won an Emmy Award. The
nonprofit organization earned the award for the broadcast of its 2021 MLK Day of
Celebration, honoring Dr. Kings legacy. The Michigan Chapter of the National Academy
of Television Arts & Sciences presented the award for broadcast production excellence
in the historical/cultural category. The award-winning, hour-long broadcast featured
performances by several Grammy Award winners and prominent Michigan artists as
well as an interview moderated by Elaine Hardy, commission chair, with keynote guest,
Dr. Bernice King, civil rights activist and the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and
Coretta Scott King.
INCLUSION CHAMPION AWARD
Mott Community College won the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Champion Award at the
eighth consecutive annual Flint & Genesee Group 2022 Art of Achievement Awards
November 3 at a celebration at the FIM Capitol Theatre in Flint. More than 85
businesses and organizations and 100 individuals were contenders for 14 awards that
were presented.
GOP HEADQUARTERS INCIDENT
The Boyne City Police Department is asking for the publics help after an incident at the
Charlevoix County Republican Party headquarters on November 5TH. Charlevoix
County Republicans said they called police after one of their volunteers stepped on
what appeared to be a homemade spike. They said the spikes were made from
flattened beer bottle caps, with roofing nails pressed through, and painted in black to
blend in with the blacktop. One of the spikes was found in a tire belonging to the
secretary of the Executive Committee.
SOS OFFICES CLOSED
Secretary of State offices and the Office of the Great Seal will be closed for Election
Day, Tuesday and the Veterans Day holiday, Friday, November 11. For those in
immediate need of Secretary of State services, most license plate types can be ordered
or renewed online at Michigan.gov/SOS. Temporary drivers licenses and registrations
for vehicles and motorcycles may be printed, allowing motorists to drive legally until
they get their renewed drivers license, plate or tab in the mail. Additionally, customers
may order a duplicate registration or title, change their address, and register to be an
organ donor on the website. Drivers licenses, state IDs and license plate tabs can also
be renewed at self-service stations, many of which are located in grocery stores and
open Tuesday and Friday.
THANKSGIVING PARADE
Do you think Detroit's Thanksgiving Day parade is the best in the nation? Detroit is
currently atop the leader board in a USA poll of Thanksgiving Day parades. The paper
is asking readers to vote on the top ten. You can vote once a day through December
5th. Philadelphia, Pasadena, Fort Lauderdale, Seattle and of course the Macy's Day
parade in New York are also in the running.
LITTLE CAESAR'S
The Detroit-based pizzeria known for it's discount pies is starting a new ad campaign
with a nod to the city. Little Caesar's is starting a big promotion of it's Detroit-style - or
square pizza - with a TV ad filmed at the Fox Theater. The eight piece Detroit-style is
being offered for $8.99 as part of the promotion nationwide.
VETERAN DAY CELEBRATION
Macomb Community College gathered students and military veterans for an early
Veterans Day celebration on Monday. Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency Director Zaneta
Adams helped commemorate the event with a student exhibit of photographs which
gave people a glimpse of the veterans' experiences. Current and former military vets,
Macomb Community College students and alumni and other state and local leaders
were there to share in the honoring those that serve.
INVASIVE MOTH
The U.S. Department of Agricultures Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has
confirmed the detection of box tree moths at two residences in Clinton located in
Lenawee County. Although not a threat to Michigans natural resources, extensive
feeding from box tree moth can lead to significant defoliation and death of ornamental
boxwood. In May 2021, potentially infested boxwood plants were shipped to retail
locations in several states including six in Michigan. The pest was then identified in
three of the six Michigan facilities. It is not known whether the box tree moth
populations detected in Clinton are linked or if the pest entered the state through
another pathway. If you see signs of box tree moth, please take a photo and report it
online. Let state and federal agriculture officials inspect your boxwood for box tree moth.
POWERBALL DELAYED
Lottery players waiting to find out if they won the largest jackpot in history are still
waiting. The Powerball drawing for Monday FOR THE 1.9 Billion dollar jackpot delayed
due to technical difficulties. The host during the drawing making the announcement
during the live broadcast, saying the results will be posted on the Powerball website as
soon as the drawing can be conducted. This is the second delayed drawing recently.
Last month another delay lasted less than an hour.
ELECTION DAY
It's election day. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Michigan. There are
races for governor, attorney general and secretary of state on the ballot. There are
also three statewide ballot issues and issues in communities throughout the state along
with other races.
MURDER ARREST ALLEGAN COUNTY
38-year-old James Rawson Junior has been charged with the murder of a 21-year-old
in Allegan County last Friday. A woman had called 911 and said that she had been
shot in the head by her ex-husband. When deputies arrived at the home in Lee
Township, they found the 21-year-old who neighbors say was Samuel Williams-- had
been shot and killed.
GRAND RAPIDS SHOOTINGS
Police in Grand Rapids are investigating after two people were shot last night and
showed up at different hospitals. Police say a woman with a gunshot wound went to a
McDonald's on Michigan Street NE and asked for an ambulance. She was taken to the
hospital with non-life threatening injuries and a man showed up at a different hospital
with gunshot wounds. Police do not know if the shootings are related. No one is in
custody.
ABORTION RIGHTS ANNOUNCEMENT IN SCHOOL-ANN ARBOR
A judge has ordered an Ann Arbor school to allow opponents of an abortion-rights
ballot question to deliver a message over the public-address system. The judge to deny
the message would violate the students' free-speech rights. The Republican club at
Skyline High School got the message out a day before voters decide whether to place
abortion rights, known as Proposal 3, in the state Constitution. The message urged
students to email the club if they want to "protect the health of women and children."
Students who support the proposal briefly left school Monday in protest.
GUN LAKE DEVELOPMENT -SW MI
The Gun Lake Tribe has big plans for Wayland Township, home to its Gun Lake
Casino. WOOD TV reports the tribe plans to develop the land between the casino and
the city of Wayland over the next several years. They plan to develop restaurants,
hotels, shopping and manufacturing. The tribe owns about 12-hundred acres of land
north of the casino to the city...north of Kalamazoo.
CHEBOYGAN SPEEDERS
In Cheboygan County, three men have been arrested after speeding over 100 miles an
hour while allegedly in possession of controlled substances. State Police say they
pulled over the car on Northbound I-75 near Indian River. Three men face various
charges including :operating under the influence, possession of a controlled substance
and reckless driving.
THC CANDY-U-P
In the eastern U-P, the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident at
a school involving suspected T.H.C. candy. Deputies say two students between 12
and 14 were found to be under the influence and apparently had eaten some of the
candy. A third student was found to also possess one of the candies. Student
resource officers are investigating.
DRUG KINGPIN-NOVI
A fentanyl kingpin who was operating drug hubs around the country, including in Novi,
is pleading guilty.
D-E-A agents using a Playstation box that was used to deliver heroin to a buyer to track
41-year-old Maurice Montain McCoy Jr.'s hubs. Authorities seizing more than 65
pounds of fentanyl and half-a-million-dollars from a Novi condo that was used as a hub.
McCoy, who is from California, pleading guilty to drug trafficking and money laundering
conspiracy. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison with a
maximum possible sentence of life in prison.
LAKE BUOYS
It's a start but buoys in Lake Michigan could lead to big things for the state. A project
by the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute at Northwest Michigan College and
Michigan Tech University has buoys in northern Michigan in Lake Michigan. Director of
the Institute , Hans Van Sumeren, says they're gathering information about wind,
waves & water temperature to help those sailing, fishing, or swimming...but they have
bigger ideas...they'd like to see Michigan become a water tech hub.
