DOC HEARING DELAY
A scheduled court appearance Monday for a Farmington Hills doctor accused of
molesting youth hockey players has been delayed. In the past two months, 66-year-old

provided medical services to youth and school hockey organizations including those in
Farmington, Redford and Novi for about 20 years. He remains in custody in the
Oakland County Jail on a more than $2 million bond.
CHILD OBESITY
There are radical new guidance for doctors treating obese children. Forget waiting to
see if a kid simply outgrows obesity before considering treatment. The American
Academy of Pediatrics says the evidence now suggests children as young as 12 could
be candidates for drugs. The guidelines also state Bariatric surgery could be an option
for kids 13 and up.
U OF M NASA
Congresswoman Debbie Dingell is congratulating the University of Michigan after being
selected for a NASA mission. A professor from the College of Engineering will lead an
investigation for the Geospace Dynamics Constellation mission. The goal is to study
electromagnetic energy entering the upper atmosphere to forecast weather effects on
Earth and in space. Dingell applauds the university for remaining at forefront of cuttingedge research and scientific advancement.
LIONS WIN MONEY
The Detroit Lions win over the Green Bay Packers helped some Michigander's secure
1-MILLION dollars. Four Detroit area men entered into the Circa Sports Million contest..
a sports-betting contest requiring players to pick 5 NFL games a week for 18 weeks.
Their group ended up winning the entire contest and 1-MILLION dollars with

prize.
TOP THRILL DRAGSTER
It looks like the carts will move again on one fan-favorite amusement ride. Cedar Point
released a video teasing the return of the Top Thrill Dragster. The tease says there will
be "a new formula for thrills.. coming in 2024". The ride closed indefinitely in 2021..
after a bracket came loose hitting a 44-year-old woman in the head. An investigation
was open by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, but they did not find Cedar Point in
violation of any laws. The park has not released any additional information regarding
the return.
WALKER APARTMENT FIRE-W MI
About 60 residents have been displaced by a fire at an apartment complex in west
Michigan's Walker , near Grand Rapids. The Walker Fire Department says the fire
started on a balcony at Green Ridge Apartments and moved into the attic space and
spread because of windy conditions. No one was injured.
The Red Cross says it's helping 60 residents who were displaced by the fire.
STANDOFF AT LAW FIRM-NEAR HOLLAND
An 82-year-old man is under arrest after he allegedly threatened two people and then
barricaded himself inside a law firm north of Holland for more than four hours. The
Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says deputies were sent to the law firm after a man
carrying two knives threatened two workers. Captain Jacob Sparks says a woman was
able to escape but a 50-year-old man was held at knifepoint until deputies arrived and
were able to get him out of there. The man was arrested and was to be checked out
medically before being put in jail.
VICE PRESIDENT HARRIS COMING TO ANN ARBOR
Vice President Kamala Harris will be paying a visit to Ann Arbor this week. A statement
from the White House says Harris is scheduled to travel to Ann Arbor for a
conversation highlighting the Biden-Harris Administrations historic and ongoing work to
combat the climate crisis.
The vice president's last trip to Michigan was in October. She stopped in suburban
Detroit to take part in a political fundraiser and discuss the Administration's efforts to
increase the production of semiconductor chips.
RICHMOND SCHOOL THREAT
Another threat targets the Richmond Community Schools district in Metro Detroit. In a
letter emailed to parents, Superintendent Brian Walmsley said the threat was sent to a
staffer on Friday indicating that the employee would be harmed if they didn't quit their
job right away. School was in session on Monday, a decision Walmsley says he made
because police are monitoring the safety of students and staff, as well as school
security.
Richmond Schools were closed for a part of last week after a written death threat was
found by staffers returning from holiday break.
POWERBALL-MEGAMILLIONS
After NO ticket matched all six Powerball numbers drawn last (Mon) night,
Wednesday's jackpot will be worth an estimated $360 million. The numbers were
18-43-48-60-69, and the Powerball was 14.
Tonight's Mega Millions jackpot, by the way, is worth an estimated $1.1 BILLION, with a
cash option of $568.7 million.
U-M DIVERSITY REPORT
A report, set to be released by the University of Michigan today, is expected to show
improvement in the university's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. U-M President
Santa Ono and Vice Provost and Chief Diversity Officer Tabbye Chavous are
scheduled to hold a discussion on the information included in the report later today.
In 2016, U of M launched an initiative designed to make the institution more diverse.
Beyond increasing minority enrollment, university officials say its goal is to address a
number of concerns, including immigration bias, LGBTQ issues and health disparities.
WOMAN ATTACKS OTHERS-N MI
A 27-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly stabbed a woman and
attacked another man with a table leg and kicked another man in Grand Traverse
County. 9 and 10 News reports the woman stabbed a 52-year-old female relative in the
neck, forearm, and fingers on Sunday. She was taken to the hospital with serious
injuries.
MISSING GIRL SAFE-N MI
In Crawford County, a missing teenage girl has been found safe. Authorities say the
14-year-old was last seen near Grayling Middle School Friday morning, but was found
safe Monday morning.
HOSTPITAL HIDDEN CAMERA
A former employee of Upper Peninsula Health System-Marquette has been bound over
to Marquette County Circuit Court after being arrested for hiding a camera in a hospital
bathroom. W-L-U-C reports 26-year-old Jarod Havican was arrested last month on a
14 felony warrant. He's been charged with using a computer to commit a crime and
capturing-distributing an image of an unclothed person.
HOSPITAL DEMO-MARQUETTE
The city of Marquette is moving closer to demolishing a former hospital building. City
commissioners voted to obtain an eight million dollar community development block
grant that would go toward the demolition, which is estimated to cost 20 million.
