SNOW PLOW KILLS MAN *** CHECK FOR UPDATE ***
An investigation underway after a snow plow crash in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor police
officers responded to a crash around 7 Friday night on Huron Street . A 58-year-old
man was plowing snow when he hit an elderly man while backing up. The plow driver
did not know he hit someone. The victim was identified as an 80-year-old Ann Arbor
resident. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. The plow truck driver is
cooperating with investigators and alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the
crash.

SLOW DOWN FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLES
Michigan State Police reminding drivers to slow down and move over for emergency
vehicles after a crash Saturday in Detroit. According to officials, a trooper was
investigating a crash on southbound I-275 with another trooper parked behind them.
Police say a car was driving too fast for conditions, lost control and hit the second
patrol car and a Jeep stuck on the guard rail. Two people in the at-fault car went to the
hospital. The trooper was treated for neck pain. A 51-year-old at fault driver from
Saginaw was cited for careless driving.

PAW-PAW FUNERAL
A funeral was held Saturday for a fallen Paw-Paw firefighter. 28-year old Ethan Quillen
died after he was hit by a power line that was brought down by a falling tree as an ice
storm hit the area. Quillen was laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Allegan. Quillen
leaves behind a wife and young daughter. He worked with the volunteer department
since 2019.

GUN LAWS
Expect more debate and more discussion in Lansing this week as lawmakers consider
an 11 bill package aimed at preventing gun violence. The legislation currently before a
Senate Committee includes universal background checks, safe storage, and Red Flag
laws.

ICE RESCUES-W MI
Two ice fishermen were rescued after falling through the ice in west Michigan in
separate incidents on Sunday afternoon. A 50-year-old man and a six-year-old were
reportedly out on the ice on Townline Lake in Montcalm County when the man fell in.
The man was in the water for about an hour before rescuers could get him out.
A little later, a 43-year-old Stanwood man fell through the ice in Latimer Park in Morley,
south of Big Rapids. Rescue crews from the Morley Fire Department went out 100 feet
on thin ice to reach him and pull him out of the water.

POWER OUTAGES-SE MI
It's going to be Tuesday before all of the power outages related to Friday's snowstorm
in southeast Michgian will be restored. That's the word from DTE Energy executives
MONDAY .
More than 20-THOUSAND customers are still without of power this morning -- the
majority are in Wayne County. Trees and branches that came down as a result of the
heavy snow knocked down more than two-thousand power lines.

GAS PRICES
You may have noticed a big jump in gas prices over the past week. Triple-A Michigan
says prices in Michigan jumped 173 cents and now average 3.46 per gallon. Despite
the increase, prices are still 41 cents less than this time last year. Analysts say the
increase is due to higher demand and tighter supplies.
The highest gas prices in the state are in Ann Arbor, Flint and Lansing.
The lowest prices are in Marquette, Grand Rapids and Traverse City.

TROOPER CHARGED
A Michigan State Police trooper is due back in court later this month after being
charged with assault and battery and misconduct in office related to an alleged assault
when he was on duty last September. Trooper Paul Arrowood was charged and after
an internal investigation by state office. Arrowood , who is white, allegedly threw a
black man to the ground and punched him several times and it's unclear why police
were trying to arrest the man, who had been walking in the roadway.
MSP director, Colonel Joe Gasper says the actions of Trooper Arrowood fall outside of
MSP police and constitute an unwarranted use of force.

SNOWMOBILE DEATHS UP IN MI
Snowmobile deaths in Michigan are up year-over-year.
LISS-oh , was pronounced dead at
the scene after colliding with a trail groomer Thursday morning in the UP's Iron County.
According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the death brings to fifteen
the total number of snowmobile fatalities this winter.
There were thirteen such deaths in Michigan last winter and twelve the year before that.

HOUSE FIRE-U-P
A man was seriously injured in a house fire in the north central U-P's Ishpeming
Township Sunday morning. W-L-U-C reports a Facebook post from Glenn's
Smokehouse says the owner of the restaurant , Glenn Andrews, was injured. It goes
on to say that his partner was in the home and is doing better. Glenn's Smokehouse is
closed today, but plans to reopen tomorrow.

MARIJUANA
It's been four years and four months since voters legalized marijuana for recreational
use in Michigan. This week, that decision will finally bear fruit in Traverse City , as
officials prepare to issue the first recreational adult-use marijuana retail licenses in city
history. That licensing could put as many as 16 recreational cannabis shops on the
map.

COPPER DOG 150-U-P
Despite some warmer temperatures, the Copper Dog 150 was completed Sunday in
Eagle Harbor in the Upper Peninsula. Ryan Anderson, of Saint Croix (Croy)
Minnesota , came in first place.

NORTHWESTERN MI COLLEGE AVIATION
In Grand Traverse County, Northwestern Michigan College is expanding and improving
its aviation program thanks to a recent addition to the state budget. N-M-C is planning
to expand the program that will cost $7 million dollars. Just over half of that cost will be
funded by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. The Traverse
City School is planning an entire reconstruction of its 47-year-old aviation hangar,
including the flight simulator and buy four new planes. Officials say expansion will not
only allow more students into the program, but will also help solve the current pilot
shortage.

NORTH CENTRAL MI COLLEGE
In Emmet County , the recent supplemental appropriation bill passed by the state
senate last week allocated $10 million to help fund North Central Michigan College's
career and technical education enhancement project. This money will go towards a
total renovation of the 59-year-old technology building on the Petoskey campus. The
project will also include renovation and expansion of the Health Education and Science
center to accommodate the growing nursing program.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER STOLEN FROM AMBULANCE-SW MI
The theft of catalytic converters out of vehicles has been an ongoing problem, but now
state police are looking for suspects who stole a catalytic converter out of a training
ambulance. Police say it happened in southwest Michigan in Sherman Township, north
of Sturgis last month. Anyone with information should contact state police.
