Alpena City Council members recently held a workshop session reviewing some of the aspects of their ordinance regarding Medical Marijuana Facilities in the City of Alpena.

As previously reported, back in June, council approved a new ordinance to repeal the prohibition of Marijuana businesses and establishments within the city and outlined laws and guidelines in which medical marijuana facilities can be operated in the city.

City Attorney Bill Pfeifer said, since that time, there were two appeals from applicants whose marijuana license applications were denied, one resulting in a lawsuit, which ended up being dismissed.

Council discussed possibly tweaking the city's scoring rubric for applicants and the appeals process to make it "more understandable and more fair" among other various changes.

City Council will hold another workshop session in a few weeks to discuss the ordinance in greater detail.
