During their most recent meeting (March 15th), Alpena City Council approved a contract compensation adjustment with SUEZ.

Officials say, per the city's contract with SUEZ, for operation of the water and sewer utility, they can request a contract modification when new regulations result in increased cost to the utility and their operational costs. This is the case with the language added to the city's National Pollution Elimination Discharge System, permit. The Michigan Deparmtent of Environment Great Lakes and Energy has added language requiring the utility to develop and implement a pollutant minimization and source elimination program for PFOS-PFOA. The cost increase to the utility for the testing needed will add approximately $4,400.

Council approved the adjustment by unanimous vote.
