MI Imports the 10th Most Energy Per Person

A new report from Commodity.com looked at the changing U.S. energy economy and the states that export the most energy and Michigan cracked the top ten.

In 2019, the United States was a net exporter of energy for the first time since 1957, meaning that it produced more energy than it consumed. Analyzing the newest data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, researchers ranked the states that export the most energy.

In 2018, Michigan was a net energy importer of 221.3 million BTUs per person. Out of all U.S. states, Michigan is the 10th largest net energy importer per capita.
