Alpena Man Sentenced on Drug and Child in Vehicle Charges

On Wednesday (November 3rd), 30-year-old Matthew James Wells of Alpena appeared before Judge Laura Frawley in the 23rd Circuit Court of Alcona to be sentenced.

Wells pled guilty on September 28th to charges of the delivery/manufacture of meth and operating a motor vehicle under the influence with an occupant under 16 years old.

On January 7th, deputies of the Alcona County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a singular vehicle crash on M-65 near Reeves Road in Mitchell Township. Upon their arrival they found Wells and his four-year-old son in the vehicle. Wells was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Genesee County and Operating Under the Influence of Drugs.

While deputies were conducting their investigation, they found numerous items related to drug activity as well as large amounts of drugs within the vehicle including crystal meth and fentanyl. A blood test indicated that wells was operating with amphetamine, fentanyl and meth in his system.

Wells was sentenced to serve 85 months to 20 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
