Governor Signs Feminine Hygiene Product Legislation

Michigan will no longer apply the six percent sales tax to tampons and other feminine hygiene products under legislation signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Supporters of the bill say the products are a necessity - not a luxury - and should be exempt from taxation like other medically necessary items.

The law will reduce state sales and use tax revenue by about 6.3-million dollars when the change takes effect in early February.
