Alpena Council Approves County Hazard Mitigation Plan

Alpena City Council members have approved of the County Hazard Mitigation plan for 2021.

Officials say, in the spring of 2020, the Office of Emergency Management distributed surveys to local government partners including the City of Alpena seeking information for the County's Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was due for review.

The revised plan first drafted in 2005 was submitted and recently approved by FEMA. The final step in the process requires the County and covered partners to adopt the Plan by resolution. The Alpena County Board of Commissioners did that at their monthly meeting on September 29th. The County requested that all local municipalities covered by the Plan adopt a resolution adopting the plan.

For the City of Alpena to be covered by the Plan and be eligible for various types of FEMA funding, the County must receive an adopted resolution from the City which was approved by unanimous vote.
