Alpena City Fire responded to a house fire Sunday in the 400 block of Miller Street in Alpena.

Upon arrival just before 10:00 a.m., crews found a small fire on the outside of the building. No one was hurt in the fire and damage was limited to one exterior wall as residents were able to return to the home. An investigation continues as an exact cause has yet to be determined.

However officials say residents should fully extinguish smoking materials in containers, and to maintain clear area, free of debris around all structures. At least seven structure fires have been ignited by discarded cigarette butts over the past couple of years in Alpena.

While responding to the fire, three additional ambulance calls were handled in the City and County by City firefighter-paramedics without incident.
