Bagley Street Bridge Opening Delayed - No New Target Date
Wed, 10 Nov 2021 10:08:22 EST

They have been trying to get the Bagley Street Bridge open for traffic by next week, but that's not going to happen.

Alpena Road Commission Managing Director Ryan Brege says while work is continuing, the November 14th target will not be met, but all efforts will be made to get the crossing open this year.

Contractors are currently working to be able to allow for two lanes of traffic to utilize the bridge for the winter, and if a detour will remain.

Several factors have contributed to construction delays including poor soil conditions requiring extensive redesign of approaches, Covid 19 and supply chain issues.

Brege saying "It's disappointing, but it is what it is. I hope for the best that we can get it open as soon as possible, and hopefully not next spring."

A new open to traffic date is not available and will be communicated once one has been established.

Brege thanking the community for its continued patience, and reminded motorists that distracted driving is a major factor in many detour incidents or crashes and can be avoided.
