Thomas Kane has been named vice president of nursing for MidMichigan Medical Center - Alpena. Kane will succeed Deb Pokorzynski who will transition to support the Medical Center’s new patient tower. She will retire in April 2022 after 41 years of service.
“Tom’s background and experience will be a tremendous asset to MidMichigan Medical Center - Alpena. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and understands the climate and culture of nursing,” said Chuck Sherwin, President, MidMichigan Medical Center - Alpena. “We are looking forward to his leadership on clinical initiatives as he supports the advancement of nursing practice within the region and for MidMichigan Health.”
With roots in Northeast Michigan, Kane served as senior director of operations for Alpena Regional Medical Center from 2007 to 2009 and then the director of clinical services for Thunder Bay Community Health Services from 2009 to 2013. Most recently, Tom worked with Munson Healthcare in Manistee in roles of chief nursing officer, vice president of clinical services, chief operating officer, as well as nurse practitioner in their Wound and Hyperbaric Center.
Kane received his master’s degree in nursing from Ferris State University, as well as a master’s in business administration from Western Michigan University. He also holds an associate degree in nursing from Alpena Community College.
Kane lives with his wife Amy in Alpena. They have three adult children.
