Alpena Township Board Approves Hiring Maintenance Worker

Charter Township of Alpena Board of Trustee members have approved of hiring a part time maintenance worker.

Right now the township contracts with a company for cleaning services, but no other maintenance items are tended to. So the prospective candidate would take on duties such as basic repairs, shoveling or salting walks in the winter, even changing light bulbs if needed.

In discussion, Treasurer Laura Ellery-Somers observed that a maintenance person is needed, as there are no provisions to maintain buildings, such as the Township Hall, along with South and North Fire Stations.

Under labor laws, a part time person would be limited to around 30 hours a week, tasks would be assigned as needed, and money to cover costs would come from the Department of Public Works budget.
