In an effort to help development of a new Starbucks and medical walk in clinic on M-32, Charter township of Alpena Trustees recently amended an ordinance regulating parking.

The basic issue, the old version would have governed calculations for parking of potential patients based on square footage of a waiting room area of the medical facility, but did not account for the employees of the same. As well, shared parking was not considered with another business, so overall, parking availability might be an issue.

Planner for the Northeast Michigan Council of Governments Denise Cline was consulted to make adjustments and clarifications for parking and land use definitions that were incorporated into the townships current ordinances which were amended.
