During their most recent meeting (December 20th), Alpena City Council members held a Public Input Session concerning discontinuation of adding Fluoride in the municipal water supply for the city and Charter Township of Alpena.

As previously reported, supply chain issues have been a problem, and the cost along with hazardous conditions of alternate chemicals and a lot of agencies discontinuing adding the chemical are issues the council has been wrestling with.

Members of the public gathered to voice their opinion, either in-person or virtually. Concerned citizens and oral care professionals alike attended the meeting. While a majority seemed against the elimination, others were in favor of it. Council did not take any action on the topic during the meeting as this was only a public input session.

Mayor Waligora said they will keep the public abreast of what will happen in the coming months regarding the elimination of flouride.
