Many Children With COVID-19

The Omicron variant is driving up COVID-19 cases amongst children.

That's happening not only across the nation but right here in Michigan. Across America, COVID-19 hospitalizations among children increased by 74% in just the past month.

With a majority of schools reopening today after the holidays, health officials expect to see more cases in children.

As a counter measure, the Michigan departments of Health and Education are urging schools to not allow large gatherings of people, such as sporting events. Options include virtual sessions, or limiting access at no essential events. Many state universities are starting out this year with remote learning.

Last week, the state was hitting 13 thousand new reported cases a day, nearly a third higher than the previous year.

The FDA is expected to approve booster vaccines for ages 12 to 15.
