RC Council Gets Brief First Street Water Project Update

As previously reported, the City of Rogers City received a 1 point 2 million dollar Community Development Block Grant for First Street water system upgrades, and council members recently received an update.

City Manager Joe Hefele explained that a bid opening session will take place next Wednesday (January 12th - 1:00), at the Council Chambers, as six or seven larger contractors took out bid specs. The council would have to approve of a submitted bid after reviews. More information would be known afterwards as to how the contractor would maintain services to homeowners during construction, where lines would be run, and a detailed timeline.

Rogers City's local match is 4-hundred thousand dollars ($400,000.00) with construction expected to begin as soon as possible in the spring with completion by fall.

The project will allow the city to replace nearly a mile of "undersized 80-year-old unlined" cast iron main on First Street through the heart of the city's water system. It will also create an appropriately-sized transmission line between all city water wells, improving water service system-wide.
