Rogers City Council learned that a substantial number of candidates have applied for the new Main Street Program Director position.

Mayor Scott McLennan says so far 12 persons applied, who he said "The quality of all candidates was very, very good."

The City of Rogers City was recently selected as one of three Michigan Economic Development (MEDC) communities, getting five years of intensive technical assistance. There will be a focus on revitalization strategies to attract new residents, business investments, economic growth and job creation.

A director salary starting out at 77-thousand in wages and benefits was budgeted, and interviews start next week (10th), with a goal of having a new director in place by the end of the month. The person selected would serve as a liaison between the DDA, city, business owners along with state officials.

To cover costs, money will come from the DDA tax Increment funds, donations, and federal American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) dollars received by the City of Rogers City.
