RC Harbor Committee Discusses Length Of Vessels And Charges At Rogers City Harbor Wed, 12 Jan 2022 06:01:49 EST
Members of the Rogers City Harbor Advisory Committee spent a good share of their Tuesday morning session discussing the length of seasonal vessels docked at the harbor.
At question is the registered length, verses additional items added on to increase the overall length such as swimming and anchor platforms. As a result, officials believe they are losing an additional 30 thousand in revenue, and protrusions have forced harbor operators to move boats into slips larger than registration length to avoid boats from sticking out of a smaller slip. There were 40 seasonal and 28 half-seasonal slip-holders last year.
Contracts for next year are about to be sent out to seasonal occupants and will include additional information concerning registered vs. overall length. While no changes are planned, and the Harbormaster wants to avoid breaking out a tape measure to start measuring boats, data from registration forms will be captured to better evaluate the issue and adjustments can be made next year if necessary.
