A new report by Self Financial examined teen labor force participation rates among U.S. states

Researchers ranked states according to their teen labor force participation rates in 2020-defined as the total number of teenagers aged 16-19 in the labor force divided by the total, noninstitutionalized population aged 16-19.

There are 209,000 working teens in Michigan, which amounts to 41.0% of the total teenage population in Michigan. The rate for the country as a whole is 34.5%. Out of the 47 states with complete data included in the analysis, Michigan has the 18th highest teen labor force participation rate
