ACC Foundation Announces Early College Degree Completion Scholarships

The Alpena Community College Foundation has announced the first recipients of the newly created Early College Completion Scholarship.

Through a partnership between Alpena Public Schools and Alpena Community College, students enrolled in the Early College program can complete their high school diploma and receive college credits at the same time. Many of these students earn enough college credits to graduate not only with their high school diploma, but an associate degree as well.

While that is certainly commendable, the ACC Foundation encourages all students in finishing what they’ve started. That is why they have created an early college completion scholarship.

The ACC Foundation is recognizing students who have demonstrated academic success and achievement toward completion of their associate degree in the coming academic year, but still need some credits to graduate. Seven area students are being offered a full-tuition scholarship at ACC to complete the remaining credits needed to receive their associate’s degree.

Executive Director of the ACC Foundation, Brenda Herman stated, “Everyone has different circumstances that affect the speed with which they’re able to progress at ACC, whether they’re an early college student, traditional student, or nontraditional student coming back to school after living life. The ACC Foundation believes in helping students finish what they’ve started and believes in the value of perseverance. While the Foundation has plenty of scholarships for other kinds of students, early college students haven’t had the same resources to help them on their way to their degree. That changes today. The ACC Foundation and its generous donors now can offer a lifeline to early college students to help them feel the incredible sense of accomplishment that comes with their diploma from ACC.”
