Security Upgrades For Alpena Township Offices

Security upgrades for the Charter Township Of Alpena Clerk and Building Department offices are about to get underway.

Board of Trustee members recently approved spending nearly 45-thousand dollars ($44,783.00) for Meridian Contracting to wall off and develop bullet proof window placement and ballistic panel walls.

Flooring upgrades, wall finishing and secure cabinets for election related equipment and supplies are all part of the project, including purchase of a building permit the township will have to sell itself.

A similar upgrade previously took place in the Treasurers office.

Money will come from American Rescue Plan Act, or ARPA Funding the township received which amounts to just over 9-hundred-19 thousand dollars ($919,211.02).

Scope of Work:
* Building Permit
* Mobilization and demobilization
* Remove and salvage suspended ceiling to allow for new walls
* Remove and salvage door and frame to Clerk's Office
* Remove and dispose of door to Building Department
* Remove and dispose (R&D) of existing drywall as required
* R&D existing flooring in Clerk's Office
* R&D existing wall at door to Building Department
* Frame new openings for new transaction windows
* Build new wall in corridor
* Install 1/4" ballistic panels on Clerk Office, Building Dept. and corridor vestibule walls
* Supply and install 2ea 4' x 3' baffle style bullet resistant transaction windows
* Supply and install new commercial steel bullet resistant door and frame
* Supply and install new drywall as required
* Prime and paint all new drywall
* Paint balance of Clerk's Office
* Paint corridor and vestibule walls to nearest door opening or corner
* Paint new door and frame and Clerk's Office door and frame
* Paint south wall of Building Department
* Supply and install new flooring in Clerk's Office - material allowance $4.50/sf.
* Supply and install new vinyl base
* Final cleaning
