Fire at John A Lau Saloon and RestaurantTue, 21 Jul 2020 16:38:57 EDT
Alpena City Fire and Police Departments, Township Fire and EMS along with the Combat Readniness Training Center were dispatched to a fire coming from John A Lau Saloon and Restaurant on 414 North Second Avenue in Alpena at around 1:35 p.m Tuesday afternoon (July 21st).
Officials say first reports were that the fire started at the back of the building and when they arrived there was smoke coming from the top of the building.
Darlene Ackerman of Virginia, Aunt to Owner of the restaurant, Jon Benson, said that she came up for the reopening as well as Benson's mother's birthday. John A Lau had recently been preparing to open up.
There have been no injuries reported so far and a cause of the fire has not been determined at this point in time.
The Second Avenue bridge was blocked to traffic and has been blocked until further notice. WATZ will have more info on this story as it develops.
