On Monday, July 6th, at approximately 9:30 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post were called to the Admiral Gas Station on US-23 South for an alleged intoxicated person who had left in a Dodge Charger.

A trooper stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, 43-year-old John Paul Gray Jr. from Spruce.

After his arrest and placement inside the patrol vehicle, Gray became defiant and attempted to damage the vehicle by thrashing about and violently kicking. Gray also announced he had urinated himself and the trooper would have to clean it up. Gray refused to take a chemical test and a search warrant was obtained.

Gray was lodged in the Alpena County Jail for one count Malicious Destruction of Police Property, one count Operating While Intoxicated Second Offense, once count Resisting and Obstructing Police, and one count Driving While License Suspended. Gray’s next scheduled court appearance is for a preliminary exam on Thursday (July 30th).
