The Red Wings have found their groove, making it four straight victories now after defeating Edmonton 5-4 on the road following a shootout. This is Detroit’s longest winning streak of the year, tying a four game streak they had back in late November. Regulation goals came from Dylan Larkin, Moritz Seider, Robby Fabbri and Olli Maatta. David Perron and Pius Suter both scored in the shootout. Larkin also had an assist and now has 8 points in his last 4 games. Detroit Goalie Ville Husso made 41 saves in the game and only gave up one goal in the shootout, which was to Connor McDavid. The Red Wings improve their record to 25-20-8. No rest for Detroit though, as they will have a rematch against Calgary tonight on the road. Face off is at 9 p.m.
The Pistons go into the All Star Break with a loss. They lost to the Celtics 127-109 in Boston and their record now sits at 15-44 with 8 days off. James Wiseman, who Detroit picked up from Golden State, made a successful debut with 11 points and 5 rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. Detroit’s next game won’t be until next Thursday (February 23rd), when they travel to Orlando to face the Magic.
Michigan State’s basketball game against Minnesota last night was postponed. Their next scheduled match up is against rival Michigan on Saturday in Ann Arbor.
