STATEWIDE SPORTS

Five unanswered goals doomed the Red Wings in Ottawa after they were out to a 2-1 lead eventually losing 6-2 in the first of two straight games against the Senators. Detroit was outshot 42-24 and had six penalties against them. The Wings second game against Ottawa will be tonight at 7 p.m.

No better luck for the Pistons in Charlotte. The Hornets shot 50% from three point range and beat Detroit for the first time this season, 117-106, to extend Detroit's losing streak to five straight. James Wiseman had his best effort so far with the team, leading their shorthanded starters with 23 points. The Pistons will have another game tomorrow night, this time against the Bulls at 7 p.m.

An 8-5 loss for the Tigers under the lights in Tampa the Yankees win, but
home runs for Eric Haase and Kerry Carpenter, plus an RBI single in the 1st inning from Javy Baez. Tigers Spring Training will continue today with a game against the Toronto Blue Jays at about 1 p.m.

And Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo says the Spartans postponed game against Minnesota will not be made up after it was scratched due to the shooting in East Lansing. They will play tonight though. It will be a game against Nebraska on the road at 9 p.m.
