STATEWIDE SPORTS
Hoping for a playoff boost, the Red Wings go 0-for-2 in Ottawa during their back-to-back games losing 6-1 last night and allowing the Senators to tie them in the standings and in the race for a wild card spot. Detroit gave up two power play goals, a penalty shot goal and a short-handed goal. That’s three straight losses for the Red Wings after winning 7 of 10. Their next game will be another match against Seattle, this time at home, tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
Over to college basketball, Michigan State came back from 15 points down to win, 80-67, against Nebraska. Joey Hauser and Jaden Akins combined for 11 of MSU’s 16 three-pointers.
In pro basketball, the Pistons are back in action tonight against the Bulls. Detroit is currently on a five game losing streak. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
In Baseball, the Tigers lose another spring training game, this time to the Blue Jays, 6-4. That’s three straight spring training losses for Detroit. They have another game this afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at about 1 p.m.
And ESPN reports that longtime NFL coach John Fox is expected to join the Lions staff as a defensive consultant. He coached the Bears, Panthers and Broncos over 15 years.
