The Colorado Avalanche have reached the mountain top. They lifted the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001 after beating the Tampa Bay Lightning in 6 games. They finished off the finals victory with a 2-1 win last night in Tampa. Former Red Wing and current Avalanche player, Darren Helm is a Stanley Cup champion for the second time. Also, Jared Bednar became the first former Grand Rapids Griffin to win the title as a head coach.
Speaking of Colorado, the ESPN documentary Unrivaled premiered yesterday to some rave reviews by Detroit fans. The documentary of the rivalry between the Wings and Colorado was depicted in a two hour showcase of the feud.
The Tigers were not able to complete the sweep in Arizona falling in their series finale, 11-7, giving up 5 runs in the sixth inning. Their next game will be against the San Francisco Giants tomorrow at 9:45 p.m.
And Michigan basketball filled its final scholarship slot with an international player bringing in 68 forward Youssef Khayat of Lebanon, who committed to the Wolverines yesterday.
