The Tigers opened their 4-game series in Cleveland with a shutout loss, unable to hit a pitch from Cleveland’s Tristan McKenzie as Detroit lost 4-0 and struck out 12 times in 8 innings. Starter Elvin Rodriguez went just short of 6 innings and tagged with 3 earned runs. Game two is tonight at 7:10 with the Tigers having lost 2 straight.

Steve Yzerman wrapped up a big couple of days of free agency by summing it up. Stevie spent about two thirds of his available $30m in cap space.

In Vegas the Pistons edged by the Cavaliers in their Summer League finale, 82-79. Braxton Key led the Detroit starters with 13 points.

And two rounds are in the books in Midland, Michigan for the Great lakes Bay invitational team Roussin-Weber made a hole in one and lead the event by 3 shots at 14-under. Annika Sorenstam's team is 5 shots back at Midland Country Club.
