A pair of future Tigers taken in the Major league baseball draft first, infielder Jace Jung out of Texas Tech at No. 12 overall a lefty slugger. Then Peyton Graham out of Oklahoma at No. 51. Detroit's director of scouting said they were lucky to have Jung fall to them in the first round. Orchard Lake High School Pitcher Brock Porter went unselected on Day 1 likely to play for Clemson instead of going pro. Michigan outfielder Clark Elliott went in the second round to Oakland pitcher Andrew Taylor of Central Michigan was selected 11 picks later by the Astros.

The Tigers first half finale was rained out in Cleveland that game will be made up on August 15th as part of a traditional double header. Following that announcement manager AJ Hinch said struggling rookie Spencer Torkelson will begin the 2nd half of the season in Triple A Toledo after batting just .197 with 5 home runs in 83 games.

And while Cam Smith was winning the Open Championship overseas the Great Lakes Bay Invitational wrapped up over the weekend in Midland, Michigan as Jennifer Kupcho wins again in the State with her playing partner Lizette Salas.
