Citing his health issues, Detroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire has announced his
retirement.

Gardenhire and General Manager Al Avila announced the move shortly
before the Tigers game Saturday night. Gardenhire will turn 63 years old next month.

He's a prostate cancer survivor. He missed two games in Minnesota earlier this month
with what was described as a stomach virus.

Tigers Bench Coach Lloyd McClendon will take over duties.
