At their recent May meeting, members of the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary Board reviewed summer plans ranging from clearing trails on Island Park and frogbit inventory to River Center fundraisers and kids' programs.

Science in the Sanctuary for children will be on Tuesday, June 29th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Island Park and Duck Park. Outdoor education booths and tables will be set up by various organizations with social distancing requirements. River Rats for kids will be held this year in July.

The May 15th bowfishing tournament will now be held on an annual basis. Raffle tickets are now being sold for a boat and trailer grand prize. The drawing will be at noon on Labor Day, September 6th, at the Alpena County Fairgrounds.

Also, spring maintenance of Island Park continues, especially of trails. There is evidence that beaver have been chewing down trees and moving them to their building site. Officials encourage all Island users to carry a plastic bag and pick up litter.
