RC Council Approves First Reading Of Ordinance - Use Of UTV's In The City

After receiving a request from a citizen to revisit the issue, Rogers City Council members have approved of the first reading of an ordinance to allow UTV or side by side use on city streets that have not been modified with a road package.

However the council also did the same with a proposed recreational vehicle noise ordinance.

Last August, the council was presented the same UTV ordinance, which died for lack of a second motion for adoption.

Under state law, those who take on the expense to make side-by-sides street legal are permitted by the state to use them anywhere automobiles can go, including city streets, which has been done by a few residents.

But unless a side-by-side is outfitted with a street package, they can't be operated on municipal streets unless a municipality allows it by ordinance.

With approval of the first reading, another reading will be held at the councils next meeting which if approved would go into effect after publishing.

However, based on previous discussion, a concern of recreational vehicle noise is an issue, and so a proposed ordinance addressing that issue was also approved for first reading, which will also be subject to a second reading and passage at the councils next session.
