Alpena Public School (APS) officials have announced that, beginning Monday (April 19th), APS will begin a two-week pause of in-person learning for grades K-12 with an anticipated return date of Monday, May 3rd.

Officials say they are currently experiencing an increase in positive school associated cases across much of the district. They added they are also experiencing a growing trend of individuals who are knowingly choosing to enter buildings when symptomatic and even when they were aware they had received a positive Coronavirus test result.

All instruction will be offered either online or with paper/pencil packets during this period. Officials say to check their webpage for detailed information regarding schedules for live instruction and food distribution. According to the CDC COVID Data Tracker Website’s United States Forecasting tool, Alpena County is forecasted to experience a continued increase in virus cases.

APS will be monitoring the information and continue to consult with local health officials to determine whether or not May 3rd, is an appropriate date to return.
