DHD4 - Two More Variants Found in Three NE MI CountiesMon, 26 Apr 2021 17:31:49 EDT
District Health Department Number 4 (DHD4) has been notified of 15 confirmed cases of Coronavirus variants across Alpena, Cheboygan and Presque Isle Counties; B.1.429 (14 cases) and B.1.427 (1 case).
The individuals have completed isolation. The cases were identified through routine active surveillance by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Officials say the variants show evidence of an increase in transmissibility, more severe disease, significant reduction in neutralization by antibodies generated during previous infection or vaccination, reduced effectiveness of treatments or vaccines, or diagnostic detection failures, according to the CDC.
They also say, based on available evidence, current tests and vaccines for Coronavirus also work against the new variants. Current protective actions will also prevent the spread of the new variants.
