Firefighters continue to get the upper hand of a forest fire in Iosco County.

The "Brittle Fire" started last Friday as the result of implementation of prescribed fire operations.

As of Wednesday, the fire was at 57-hundred acres (5,781), and officials say the current containment is at about 80%, with an estimated full containment date remaining this Friday (April 30), and the fire is no longer actively spreading.

There are still no reported injuries or structures damaged, and all evacuation warnings were lifted Monday. A fire information board with a daily update, map and safety information is now available at the Lumbermans Monument Visitor Center for public viewing.

The public is asked to remain away from closed areas, to allow the firefighters, engines, helicopters, and other equipment to work safely, and not fly “Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), or drones over or near the area.

Wednesday, firefighters continued working to improve the line around the fire, by patrolling along the fireline and extinguishing hot spots.

Officials say the Type 2 Eastern Area Incident Management Gold Team assumed command of the Brittle Fire, which will bring in additional resources to provide logistical and operational support for the suppression.
